The WAP Challenge, explained
From sloths to hot moms, everyone seems to be getting in on the WAP Challenge
First things first: WAP is a song by our lord and savior Cardi B ft. Megan Thee Stallion. WAP is an acronym, it stands for Wet Ass Pussy and is essentially about the sexual power of a healthy vagina. The video is … provocative.

The song dropped on August 7, and it took less than 24 hours for TikTok users to embrace the song and turn it into even more of a hit.
Anyway, it’s a banger of a song and everyone (except Ben Shapiro) loves it. The song drew 93 million U.S. streams in its debut week, according to Nielsen Music/MRC Data, the most for any track ever in its first week of release.

On August 8, TikTok user Brian Esperon, a dancer and choreographer from Guam, uploaded a video of him and another person doing a dance inspired by the dancing in the music video.

Shoot forward to today, and more than 3.2 million videos have been posted to TikTok mimicking Brian’s dance using the same portion of the song, making it one of TikTok’s biggest hits to date.
Some favorites include:
Everyone’s favorite sexy Willy Wonka (tbh I want to and should write 10,000 words on sexy Willy Wonka). I’m pretty sure that at 119.7 million views and 14.1 million likes, this is the most viewed + liked WAP Challenge video on TikTok right now. (Wait, no. That title belongs to Addison Rae since her WAP video has 218.3 million views.)

The jumping dancer Tre Clements. Tre’s impossibly high jumps and lightning fast moves make him a delight to watch, and he did not disappoint when it came to the WAP Challenge.
User kdot1_ tried going into labor by doing the WAP dance.
The very fantastic Canadian artistic gymnast Peng-Peng Lee posted her version of the WAP challenge that included several very impressive and seamless outfit changes (in the world of TikTok these are called transitions).

Future newsletters will be longer, but since this is the first one I wanted to keep it short and focus on a single story.
Please follow me on Twitter where I talk casually about TikTok pretty much every day.
Thanks for reading, and until next time!
